Putting the finishing touches on a London loft conversion

A sense of light and space created by the white painted balusters and bannisters and light coloured carpet.

COORDINATING THE PERFECT CARPET

I recently did a colour consultation with a local London client who has had a loft conversion completed and needed advice to choose a suitable floor covering for the stairs and bedroom in the loft.

Ideally she wanted a stair runner but I advised against this due to the narrow width of the stairs.  We looked at different textures including sisal and various carpet weaves (loops, twists etc). Faye opted for a classic and stylish twist in a light colour, which complemented the painted balusters and bannisters and really opened up the stairwell.

There was the challenge of not being able to carpet from the ground floor due to further work that is being done at that level, so I advised that she order sufficient carpet for all the stairs and store it until needed.

It is always interesting to see the way old London houses are converted to accommodate modern living and growing families.  What were once unused spaces are transformed into light and airy additional accommodation. I look forward to working with Faye over the next 12 months on the creation of a large kitchen/diner.
