I’m new to IGTV and I uploaded a video on my laptop last night of my sitting room and low and behold it appeared in my IG feed overnight 😳 Not sure where I assumed it would end up (I’m blonde folks 🙋‍♀️) but certainly not on my feed 🙄😊. I can’t add text or hashtags to it (I think I was supposed to do that when I uploaded it 🙄). Hey ho, we live and learn. I thought I owed you an explanation for the random video which I had planned to put on my Stories only. Anyone else bamboozled by IGTV? .

This photo of the guest bedroom was shot by my friend @design_at_nineteen who popped in yesterday for tea and cake. Have a look at his fabulous feed and give him a follow. There’s such an ease when antipodeans get together (he’s South African, I’m Kiwi). There is a gravitation, an innate understanding between Kiwis, Aussies and South Africans. I wonder what the common denominator is ? Thoughts?

Let’s celebrate ourselves today and being true to ourselves and no-one says it better than Dr Seuss. I’m not sure what this old stone sign from @tkandishop says about me but I fell in love with it. I’ve placed it on the bench just inside the front door so it’s the first thing that greets you. It weighs about 28kg so I won’t be moving it in a hurry. I have no idea if its history or origin and it may slightly resemble a tombstone and I may even request it on my grave 😜 It speaks volumes about me as a person - in one word, bonkers 🤪 What object in your home most describes you ? #realitynotfakery

Happy Monday everyone! Someone asked if I would post an image of my collection of convex mirrors. Unfortunately it’s impossible to capture it all in one image as apart from the ones you can see in this image they continue over the kitchen and bathroom doors to the left. There are 15 in total (call it slight obsession!). They also serve a practical purpose as the hallway is very dark due to no lighting so these mirrors are reflecting the natural light from the other end of the hallway. It’s always impossible to photograph them without appearing in every mirror 🙄 The gallery wall adds additional interest to the hallway - I’ve mixed (mainly) original art with family photos and a few quirky objects which create a 3D effect. Creating gallery walls and positioning art are passions of mine and something I do a lot of for clients. Most people hang art and mirrors too high - your eyes should be about two thirds up the picture. What is your biggest bugbear when deciding where and how to hang your art? .

Don’t forget to use my new hashtag #realitynotfakery for those images where you haven’t styled just for the capture. Keep it real, be authentic. Obviously you can tidy up but don’t remove the cat or dog 😁

⭐️ NEW HASHTAG ⭐️ Following my rant on yesterday’s post about the amount of styled images on IG, I have created a new hashtag:
#REALITYNOTFAKERY
I hope you will use it for images where you have NOT styled your home for the photo e.g. no strategically placed items just for the shot. Some editing of the photo is permitted! I was overwhelmed by the huge amount of responses on yesterday’s post supporting my rant where the majority claimed to find it demoralising, ridiculous and even cynical that many images of people’s homes on IG are not authentic - furniture deliberately moved to places you couldn’t walk past or around; fairy lights across the bed, the sofa and even in the bath; the same plant or faux flowers appearing in multiple rooms, and what about plants and candles on the loo seat? 😱😐 Come on everyone, there’s more to life than likes and followers, the majority of us just want authentic and to get to know the person behind the images, warts and all. Use my hashtag only on posts where you can say hand on heart that you’ve pointed the camera and shot the image. .

What are your sitting room dilemmas? Wall colour? Furniture placement? Shelfie styling? Introducing colour? Whatever they are don’t be intimidated by all the perfect rooms styled within an inch of their lives that you see on IG, Pinterest, Houzz etc. Remember that isn’t reality! I’ve seen plants on beds, vases of flowers and other items in ridiculous, totally impractical places ...... Do we no longer want to see real life? I’m gobsmacked at the amount of likes some images generate on IG, aren’t you? I want to stay true to myself on social media - what you see is what you get in real life. Some of you saw my crazy, gin-fuelled cooking supper with my sister last week on Stories. It was obviously not staged 😆 and it made many of you laugh as much as we were laughing. I wish there were more images, videos and comments on IG that made us smile or belly laugh, don’t you? Life is way too serious and trawling through a myriad of images on IG that don’t represent reality is mind-bogglingly boring. Here endeth my Thursday rant. Have a good day and don’t forget to laugh 😁
